Dixie's former owner asked us to take in her, her mom and four siblings after they were evicted from their home, had to move and could not take the family of dogs with them. We had a foster home lined up, agreed to pick up mom and pups and transport them to the foster home.

When he arrived at the former owner's home, a run down and older model mobile home, Scott Bennett found the mom living on a chain and trying to nurse her puppies who were only 2 weeks old. The only shelter they had was by crawling under a collapsed tarp that had various trash under it as well. The pups were already showing signs of having skin issues, possibly Demodex, which had their tiny little feet swollen to twice their normal size and missing fur on them and their tails as well. The mom dog was very skinny and loaded with tape worms, which were robbing her of any nutrition for herself or her pups.  Needless to say, both mom and pups were in bad need of being rescued.

After Scott loaded up mom and pups, he attempted to contact the foster to let her know he was on the way to her house. Now while Scott had spoken to the foster just before he arrived at the former owner's home, his attempts to reach her once he had mom and pups, and the former owner had already left the area, proved pointless as the foster refused to answer his calls and messages. Knowing he had no room at SoCo to house mom and her pups and not wanting to simply leave them all behind, Scott decided to house the canine family in his guest bathroom until space opened up in the rescue. That proved to be a lifesaving decision for the mom, who we've renamed Ruby, as her lack of nutrition from having tapeworms almost cost her life. But we're happy to report that Ruby and all five of her pups survived their ordeal and now have been treated for all of their ailments. And all of the pups received proper socialization, making them all very friendly, playful and happy pups.

Dixie has also been de-wormed, received all of her first year "puppy" vaccines, rabies vaccination as well as other much needed care. Her skin condition is still visible but not as bad and we suggest continuing her on Nexgard for fleas and tick for the next two months then switching over to Bravecto as both also treat a number of common skin issues, including Demodex mange. Dixie's adopter must agree to having her spay once she reaches 6 months of age and providing verification of such to our rescue. She will need all of her basic training.
