It's hard to believe that such a handsome, wonderful senior dog would ever need rescuing, but that's exactly the position that Sy, a senior Yorkie, found himself in. Sy and four other dogs, which included a senior  Maltese and three mixed breed dogs (former strays), were all left alone at their former home after one of their owners passed away unexpectedily, leaving his widow brokenhearted and causing her to move out of the home. The widow thought someone was going by to feed and care for the dogs, but from the amount of feces and scattered trash inside the home, it's evident that no one really gave much thought about the safety and wellbeing of Sy and his companions. The Maltese was so badly matted that he had feces stuck in his fur, the three strays were suffering badly from mange and poor Sy looked as if had just about given up hope.

Luckily, a very compassionate young lady who was visiting the area became aware of the predicament the dogs were in, contacted us and asked for help. She followed our advice to immediately contact law enforcement and even offered to check on and feed the dogs while she was in the area. After receiving permission from the Dublin/Laurens Co Animal Control, we were able to speak with the widow and make arraignments to get Sy and his companions into our rescue rather quickly.

Sy's very friendly and affectionate personality wasn't defeated by his horrible ordeal, in fact it may have increased his desire to be near people even more. He loves being held, hugged and petted, his snuggles into your body will prove that much! He'd be great as a companion to a retired/elderly person who is also very active and would like a little buddy to join them in all sorts of adventures. Sy also enjoys the company of other dogs and has even been friendly to our house cat. Sy just wants a buddy who will love him forever and never leave him all alone again.

Sy has now been neutered, received an update on his annual vaccinations, deworming and preventative care. He did have a growth on his back, which our vet removed after determining that it was cancerous. He was also given a dental exam which determined his teeth were in "very good condition" and didn't require any attention at that time. Sy may require additional house training, especially after being locked inside his former home.

If interested in adopting Sy, please first submit n application at socorescue.com. If selected to adopt Sy, one of our team members will contact you ASAP.
