***Spanky is with a loving foster in the Monmouth Junction, NJ area. He is such a love, enjoys being with his humans. He would do best in a home without other dogs. If interested in adopting Spanky, please submit an application at socorescue.com (no calls please). If selected to adopt Spanky, one of our team members will be in touch ASAP.***
Spanky was enjoying his senior years simply by getting to grow old with his former owner, who he'd been with for almost his entire life. As the years passed, Spanky's owners, seniors themselves, began having difficulty providing him with proper care, namely his grooming needs, as their own health began to deteriorate. Then tragedy struck as death claimed the life of one of his owners and a nursing home being the best option for the other. All of a sudden, Spanky's future became very clouded with uncertainty and many unanswered questions. But an answer to who would help Spanky was found after a call was placed to SoCo Rescue as we not only gladly accepted him into our family, we also added his friend Sassy, a senior Chihuahua, as well.
When Spanky first arrived, we weren't sure if we were supposed to pet him or clean floors with him! He was so full of fur that he looked like a mop head and prevented us from seeing his eyes and most of his face. This poor fellow hadn't been to a groomer in quite a while. But after a trip to our vet's office, Spanky was feeling much more comfortable after his long, matted fur was shaven off. He was also received an examination, an update on his annual vaccines and other medications to help get him back to being a very healthy dog. Not only did Spanky test negative for heartworms, our vet said Spanky was in "pretty good health" for a senior dog! Our vet did state that Spanky may need some dental work in the near future but didn't feel that to be an immediate need.
Spanky has shown himself to be a real people-oriented dog. And while he enjoys being lazy on someone's lap, he also enjoys going on walks, running around freely in our yards and playing as hard as a much younger dog would! Spanky shares a kennel with Sassy and gets along pretty good with her, but does tend to be the more alpha of the two so a "meet-and-greet" with any other dogs he'd share the home with would be advised. Spanky may need a refresher course with his house training.
If interested in adopting Spanky, please submit an application at socorescue.com. Inquiries through other adoption sites are not consider as an application. You will be contacted by a team member if selected to adopt Spanky.
