After a local woman found Shrek roaming freely and apparently lost, she took him to her home and began a search for his possible owner. Shrek was extremely dirty and a little on the thin side after most likely being lost for a few days. The owner was found and, at first stated he wanted Shrek back but then declined to reclaim him.  The owner stated that he just "...didn't have time" for Shrek, who lived chained to a tree, and asked the woman if she knew of anyone that would want him? The woman contacted SoCo Rescue and we were more than happy to take Shrek into our rescue.

Since his arrival, Shrek has been extremely friendly towards all of our staff. He will bark at strangers but quickly turned to mush once he starts to interact with them. Shrek enjoys playing with people, going on walks and just hanging out with his human counterparts. Shrek's compatibility test with other dogs went well, he didn't show any aggression, but his size, weight and his sometimes hyper personality would require a "meet-and-greet" with any dogs he'd be sharing a home with would be advised prior to his adoption.  Because of his size and strength, we wouldn't recommend allowing small children around Shrek.

Shrek has now been neutered, received an update on all of his vaccinations, de-ormed and treated against parasites. When he first arrived, Shrek was heartworm positive but has since been treated for them and kept on his monthly preventatives for heartworms and fleas/ticks. Shrek's adopter should be prepared to offer him house training.

To apply for the adoption of Shrek, please submit an application at socorescue.com (please, no phone calls)
