***Rachel is currently in a foster home in NJ.  She is available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas.***

If you have it in your heart to help out a rescue dog, Rachel is our number one choice for you!  She has lived at the rescue for 3.5 of her 6 years.  We are thrilled to see her thriving in a foster home loving life.  Here's what her foster family says:

"We really didn't know what to expect since Rachel was at the rescue so long.  We were amazed and surprised:  she is the perfect guest!  From day one, house trained, crated trained and couch potato!  The thing that stands out most is that Rachel is a total love bug.  She is super affectionate and when we are walking, she wants to say "hello" to everyone.  She enjoys walks, cuddles and time with her toys.  She tosses them in the air but has not destroyed one toy!  Some of the things that Rachel does not do make her a very easy dog:  she doesn't bark (only at deer in the yard of the doorbell);  she does not destroy shoes or hats or furniture;  she doesn't dig up the yard;  she doesn't need another dog to keep her entertained.  She is completely happy to sit on the couch as we work during the day.  We are taking her for walks or play time 3x day for about 30 minutes.  She needs some leach training and likes walks but does not need tons of exercise like younger dogs.  We think Rachel would do well with someone wanting a companion dog that's easy with low to moderate exercise needs.  Rachel has been friendly to children but she does not know her own size so best to avoid small kids.  She restrains herself in the house with our cat but not recommended for a home with a cat.  She might even do well in an apartment as when we visit my mom, she rides the elevator!"

In terms of history, Rachel appeared at the home of a local resident one day fully pregnant and close to delivering her pups. After her four pups were old enough to be moved, we took them all into our rescue. Her pups were adopted pretty quickly but Rachel, who was heartworm positive at the time, had to remain with us while she regained her health and eventually treated for her heartworms. Now that she's healthy, Rachel is ready to find her new home.

Rachel is a very friendly, calm girl who really just wants a human friend that she can love and trust in.  She's laid back, calm (yet very playful) and enjoys just being part of whatever her people are doing. While she initially got along very well with other dogs and may be again, Rachel now seems perfectly content being the only dog.

Besides being treated for her heartworms, Rachel has also been fully vetted and kept on her monthly preventatives since coming to us. She's gotten a bit overweight in her time with us but she'll trim down once she has a home that allows for more exercise time.
