***Adopted!**

Currently being fostered in the Pennington, NJ - after being in a foster, we are learning that she would do best as an only dog, she takes the dominant role by growling at other dogs & that could be misread as aggressive instead of being insecure to other dogs.  She would do best with older kids, sudden movements scare her.  Once again, given the right time & attention, Pepper is going to be amazing which means we need to find the right home.

After learning of a hoarding situation, a neighboring county's animal control asked if SoCo Rescue could help by taking all of the dogs into our care. The AC officer explained that the owner of the dogs was disabled, indigent and unable to pay any fines that would levied against him if the dogs had to be impounded, thus resulting in jail time for the disabled owner; something that no one wanted to see happen. SoCo gladly offered help, met with the owner and came away with twenty Terrier-Dachshund mix dogs ranging in age from 3 weeks old to 5 years. Most of these dogs were suffering from various stages of fur loss, somewhat timid due to improper socialization and grossly underweight. They were all filthy, covered in fleas and infested with worms.

Of all the dogs rescued from that horrible situation, Pepper was in the worst condition and the one most in need of saving. Her former owner stated that she had lost all of her fur a few years ago, yet no vet care was ever provided for her. And she was very pregnant at the time. Her health was in such poor shape that we had to abort her pregnancy as  going to full term would have put Pepper's life at risk. Despite the amount of neglect she endured for years, Pepper remained very loving and sweet, thriving on human interaction. She's been treated for her skin condition  and has regrown some of her fur but may never regrow all of it. (fish oil added to her diet will help)

Pepper has already been spayed, received an update on her vaccinations, de-wormings and other such vet care and started on her monthly preventatives. She also recently tested negative for heartworms. Pepper may need additional house and leash training. We're not positive of her age but was told by the previous owner that she was around 5 years old.If you can give this amazing girl the home she deserves, please submit an application at socorescue.com (no registration or login required)
