Description:

While Domino's former owner surrendered him to us because they "couldn't afford" his needed vet care. Domino was flea infested to the point that had scratched and chewed his back into a bloody mess, which had also become very infected. His neck was also missing a lot of fur and there were scabs on the top of his head as well. Domino was also in such a state of discomfort and pain that he seemed lethargic, most likely from the anemia that the fleas had caused. We immediately gave Domino a good bath, his first in a very long time, and administered a flea/tick preventative. It took two weeks for Domino to regain his strength and start to feel better.

Domino has since really opened up to us. He really attached himself to SoCo Rescue's Scott Bennett, most likely bonding during his initial care being administered, and took a few days to become accepting of the other staff members. Domino will stand his grown when first meeting new people but give this boy a couple of treats, a belly rub and some true love and he wants to be friends. While at his former home, Domino lived with multiple people in the home, including children in the 8-12 year old range and got along with all of them perfectly.  His reactions towards other dogs has also been a bit mixed and he may prove to be better as an only dog. A meet and greet between other dogs would be in order if he is to share the home with them. Domino will not be good around cats. He does love leash walks, playing and just snuggling up in your lap.

Domino has almost fully recovered from his lack of proper care but may never regrow a full coat of fur on his back and neck. He has been fully vetted, de-wormed, started and kept on his monthly preventatives and recently tested negative for heartworms, He most likely will need additional house and leash training but, according to his former owners, Domino did very well living as an inside dog.

While Domino may need a little patience and understanding during his "settling in" time, there's no doubt that he'll become a much loved and trusted companion. If you feel you can offer Domino the home that he needs, please submit an application at socorescue.com (no need to register or login)
