**Charlie is now in a loving foster home in Pennington. NJ. This gentle soul is enjoying being out of the shelter & being spoiled in a home**
Our staff arrived to work last Oct to find that someone had left a dog in a crate in our parking lot. "Charlie", as we later named him, is a medium-sized dog but the crate was for a much smaller dog, causing Charlie to be cramped and covered in his own waste by the time we found him. Charlie was also very scared, confused and uncertain of exactly what was happening. These was no note or other indication as to where Charlie came from or why he had been abandoned at our rescue.
It took a while for Charlie to become fully trusting of us, often shying away from attempts to pet him or even try to take him on walks. It seems obvious that while at his former home, Charlie received very little human interaction and most likely just another "outside" dog that lived his life secluded away from his owners. But after some dedicated work, Charlie started to trust us and transformed into a very well socialized dog. Even during his uncertain times, Charlie never displayed any forms of aggression towards people or other dogs and doesn't even seem to mind our house cat. Charlie now enjoys his leash walks, belly rubs and has even shared his kennel space with a number of other dogs, enjoying the playtime with them.
Charlie lack of proper vet care from his former owner is what most likely led to a number of benign tumors forming inside his ear, making it very difficult to properly clean them now. We treated the infection in his ear with antibiotics, which is about all that can be done as there's simply too many of these tumors to remove them all and they'll most likely just grow back, according to our vet's office.
Charlie has now been neutered, received an update on his yearly vaccinations and been kept on his monthly preventatives.
