Description:Other Pictures of Dixie (click to see larger version):
After hearing what sounded like cries coming from her yard one night, a woman discovered that someone had placed a young Dachshund inside a 50 gallon barrel in her yard. After retrieving the puppy from the barrel, the woman discovered that "Dixie" was blind. After having her for a few days, the woman also realized that Dixie was also deaf. Shortly after we took Dixie in, she also broke with parvo but did so while she was at our vet's office which enabled us to immediately get her the care that she needed. Dixie has made a full recovery from her bout with parvo and is now doing very well.
When you think about it, Dixie has no idea that the world is full of sights and sounds that most of us take for granted. She may have very limited sight but not enough to see what's even right in front of her face. Despite living in a silent, and pitch black world, Dixie remains a very happy and playful girl. She seems to "see" with her nose, which is why her nose is always pointed upward, and is able to navigate around things as if she had full use of her vision. She is very people friendly, loves to play and seems to always be getting into some sort of mischief. Her zest for life will amaze you and her ability to adapt in the world she lives in will touch your heart. Even with her ability to function somewhat normally, Dixie will require an adopter who knows how to handle a dog with her disabilities. A home without small children would also be best
Dixie has now been fully vetted, de-wormed and started on her monthly preventatives. A microchip will accompany her adoption.
