**Adoption Pending** Dixie is a happy and playful girl! She is very people friendly, loves to play and seems to always be getting into some sort of mischief. Her zest for life will amaze you and her enthusiasm for life will touch your heart. She has bonded with other dogs and is gentle with kids. You would never know from watching her that Dixie is blind and deaf! Yes, that’s right, d espite living in a silent, and pitch black world, she seems to "see" with her nose, which is why her nose is always pointed upward, and is able to navigate around things as if she had full use of her vision.
It’s a sad story, a woman heard cries outside her home and discovered that someone had abandoned a young Dachshund inside a 50 gallon barrel in her yard. After retrieving the puppy from the barrel, the woman fell in love with the pup and named her “ Dixie”. She soon found that Dixie could not see or hear. She was able to keep her until we had a spot for her at the rescue. Shortly after we took Dixie in, she also broke with parvo but did so while she was at our vet's office which enabled us to immediately get her the care that she needed. Dixie has made a full recovery from her bout with parvo and is now doing very well.
As you can tell, Dixie has had a long journey to finding her forever true home. She is ready! Even with her ability to function somewhat normally, Dixie will require an adopter who knows how to handle a dog with her disabilities. A home with another dog and without small children would likely be best.
Dixie has now been fully vetted, de-wormed and started on her monthly preventatives. A microchip will accompany her adoption.
