***Benny is scheduled to be available for adoption at Rosedale Mills ( Pennington, NJ) over the Jan 31-Feb 2 weekend.***
After his former owner nearly died from an overdose of drugs, Benny and his friend, Velma, were left in dire straights. Locked inside their former home and with their owner confined to rehab, Benny and Velma must have pretty scared and confused. Luckily a very compassionate woman took their safety as her cause and was able to provide food, water and love to them while she sought a rescue to take them in. With all of the area's rescues and shelters packed full, Benny and Velma's futures was looking pretty bleak as the local high kill shelter was becoming the only option.
But then this woman came across the name and number for SoCo Rescue. And while Benny and Velma were located more than 8 hours away in Florida, she just had to try one more place. After hearing their story, a team of SoCo Rescue volunteers, fosters and staff members, found a way to get Benny and Velma transported and into boarding until space at our rescue opened up. And everyone involved quickly saw how unjust it would have been to let either of these two wonderful dogs meet their fate simply over a very bad decision by their former owner.
Benny is a goofy, playful fellow who is very friendly towards everyone he meets. He's very playful with Velma and should do well with other dogs his size but a meet and greet between Benny and any dogs he'd share the home with. Benny is a strong fellow who simply needs a little training and guidance as he still has that "puppy mentality" about him. Benny is a quick learner and very smart, so his training should be an easy task.
Benny has now been neutered, had all of his basic vaccinations renewed, de-wormed and treated against parasites. We've also started him on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and he even tested negative for heartworms during his recent vet examination. Benny will most likely need additional house training
