Adoption Pending - ***Velma is in a loving foster home in the Princeton, NJ area, she is doing amazing!**

After her former owner nearly died from an overdose of drugs, Velma and her friend, Benny, were left in dire straights. Locked inside their former home and with their owner confined to rehab, Velma and Benny must have pretty scared and confused. Luckily a very compassionate woman took their safety as her cause and was able to provide food, water and love to them while she sought a rescue to take them in. With all of the area's rescues and shelters packed full, Velma and Benny's futures was looking pretty bleak as the local high kill shelter was becoming the only option.

But then this woman came across the name and number for SoCo Rescue. And while Velma and Benny were located more than 8 hours away in Florida, she just had to try one more place. After hearing their story, a team of SoCo Rescue volunteers, fosters and staff members, found a way to get Velma and Benny transported and into boarding until space at our rescue opened up. And everyone involved quickly saw how unjust it would have been to let either of these two wonderful dogs meet their fate simply over a very bad decision by their former owner.

Velma has impressed everyone with her calm, very polite and ultra-friendly personality. Although she loved her friend Benny, we have noticed she is selective with other dogs.  We believe it’s because all this change it too much right now.  So right now, she would be best as the only dog in a home.  She would make a wonderful family pet.

Velma has now been spay, had all of her basic vaccinations renewed, de-wormed and treated against parasites. We've also started her on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and she even tested negative for heartworms during her recent vet examination. She formerly lived as an indoor dog and displayed great house training traits, from what we were told.
