**Rosa is being fostered in and is available for adoption in Pennington, NJ area.**

In December 2016 we found Rosa and her son, Gomez, living at a local dumpster site. Both appeared to have either been living there for a long time or possibly even being feral as both were extremely terrified of people. We had to use a trap to capture both of them.

When she first came to us Rosa didn't want us to touch her, she  would run around her kennel when we attempted to do so. We decided not to force ourselves on her and decided to let her move at her pace to see if she become more accepting of us. After 6 months she finally stoppd running but would tense up and tremble whenever we did touch her, Another two months, she allowed us to pick her up. Now, a year later, she is doing much better and lets us pick her up, although she still acts scared. But it's obvious that she enjoys the affection shown to her and really wants to be a calm, relaxed dog with human interaction, maybe she just doesn't know how to relax completely.

Rosa needs and deserves a home with someone who is highly experienced in dealing with an extremely timid dog. She does get along very well with other dogs, even serving as an "ambassador" to some of the new small dogs and pups when they first come into our rescue. By observing other dogs who have shared her kennel Rosa has picked up on their interaction with us and seems to make progress in becoming more sociable.

While she is very attached to Gomez, Rosa has also done very well when we make them spend time away from each other. We'd love to find a home where they could stay together but may also consider separating the two.

Rosa's ideal home will be one without young children or a lot of commotion as noises and such frighten her. Also her adopter must understand that it will take time for her to become accepting of them.

Rosa has been fully vetted including being spay and has even tested negative for heart worms. She's healthy and, in her own way, happy. She just needs a home where she can continue her progress in becoming as sociable as she possibly can.

If you think you have what it takes to offer Rosa the home she needs and deserves  please submit an application at socorescue.com
